President Obama created US history on Thursday in becoming the first President to intentionally omit a direct reference to God in the Thanksgiving Proclamation.
Glory to God and the proclamation of God’s love for America is a theme that is traditionally emphasized by Presidents BUT Obama broke with tradition to make a stunning omission.
Herewith are the Top 10 Reasons for believing President Obama is a CLOSET ATHEIST:

3. Obama’s father was raised a Muslim but became an atheist

5. “My mother’s parents were non-practicing Baptists and Methodists, and were probably one of the most spiritual and kindest people I’ve ever known, but she grew up with a healthy skepticism of organized religion herself. As a consequence, so did I.” -Obama 2006
6.President Obama recognized this year’s National Day of Prayer on Thursday with a paper proclamation, rather than a public event at the White House, again breaking with tradition.
7.“In sum, my mother viewed religion through the eyes of the anthropologist; it was a phenomenon to be treated with a suitable respect, but with a suitable detachment as well.” (Excerpt from Audacity of Hope)
8.Obama has been quoted as saying that too often religious leaders use faith to “exploit what divides us” by convincing their flock that the only issues that matter are abortion, gay marriage, school prayer, and intelligent design. “Exploit what divides us” is something, typically, a born again or evangelical Christian would never say.
9. “I was not raised in a religious household.” -(Excerpt from Audacity of Hope) The correlation between religious parents and religious offspring is well documented.
10. After one year in office, Obama’s declared church remains a mystery.
COMMENT: Is it possible that President Obama declare his atheism/agnosticism after securing a 2nd term in 2012? We can only dream can’t we?

To be perfectly frank, this surely is in keeping with what Jefferson and Franklin et al. originally wanted for the USA, is it not? Separation of church and state? And by not declaring any religious denomination outright Obama is merely adhering to these founding tenets. This can only be a good thing.

I agree on the closet athiest bit; part of his reluctance to say he is one is the sheer vitriolic nature of the far (less pragmatic) right; he’s getting enough criticism as it is, and its part of the job to both listen to and detach yourself from that. But when attacks become more personal, it becomes much harder to deal with.

This may be wishful thinking on your part. There are other explanations for his actions as POTUS. For instance, he may not feel it is appropriate for the President to make references to God as it could alienate some people.

I actually hope he stays in the ‘atheist closet,’ although I would guess he’s an agnostic. If he comes out as being any sort of non-believer, 75% of Americans will have a fucking heart attack, and he won’t get re-elected. It’s sad, but true.

Yeah, I’d hope for agnostic. Atheistic leaders dont have the best track record… Stalin, Mao, Hoxsa, Cruschev, Castro… I guess it has something to do with the whole denial of the basis for the universal and inalienable human value, dignity, and rights. Easier to trample all over people when you see them as the “unfit” rather than image bearers.

The important thing here is that Obama is a secularist.
He has spoken very well on his beliefs regarding secularism, and though i would like him to be an atheist, it is just as likely that he is a liberal Christian, bordering on agnostic.
Also people, lets not forget that the consensus is slowly moving towards acceptance of Lincoln as an atheist, or at best agnostic.

Many Atheists who do the same thing on Iraq and ODUMA as the Christians do on evolution (& other things) they just either Refuse to learn and/or Deny ANY facts which prove their position untenalbe.
While I can fully understand why and how
Christians can, and will, simply deny any facts which prove them wrong as they have been PROGRAMMED from the time they were babies on, it mystifies the hell out of me how SUPPOSEDLY intelligent and rational people who have NOT been programmed will do the exact same thing!
